Smart Women read “Real Simple” Magazine

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

The March issue of “Real Simple” magazine is dedicated to one theme: “Live Well on Less: 71 Ways to Spend Smarter.” And we know all Smart Women enjoy getting a good bargain! You can then spend your money saved on things that really matter in life. (Dark Chocolate, Café Latte’s, Champagne…) Here are just a few of the “dollar stretching” ideas that I found useful:

– How to Prolong a Haircut

– Extending Hair Color. This tip was the best in the magazine for me. I go every 5-6 weeks to have my color done, so this was great information!

– Don’t Get Taken For a Ride. Tips on car expense reductions.

The issue is filled with tons of tips and solutions to help you cut corners in areas of your daily life. Get yours today!

Be well,

Joys Great Summer Reads

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Summer afternoons are the perfect time to grab a cold drink and enjoy a great book. There are so many books to choose from and I know most of the magazines right now are recommending the “New Arrival” books on the shelves. After reflecting on this, I decided that I would offer you a list of 9 books that have really touched me over the last 25 years. These are all non-fiction with the exception of maybe one. Enjoy!

  1. And Ladies of The Club – Helen Hooven Santmyer
  2. The Shell Seekers – Rosamund Pilcher
  3. Beach Music – Pat Conroy
  4. The Gold Coast – Nelson DeMille
  5. The Bridges of Madison County – Robert James Waller
  6. The Elegant Gathering of White Snows – Kris Radish
  7. The Secret Life of Bees – Sue Monk Kidd
  8. Hill Towns and Outer Banks – Anne Rivers Siddons (every book she writes is excellent – I’ve read them all!)
  9. Author Sue Grafton – Every book she writes is excellent. They are murder mysteries and she has her resident detective, Kinsey Milhone, a young 30-something woman who works on each and every case. Kinsey’s character is one to love.
