Smart Women Have a GPS

There is a beautiful, peaceful bed and breakfast in Santa Monica, The Channel Road Inn, where I am fortunate to spend time with women who are ready to explore, evaluate, and make a plan for their future. It’s the perfect place to think about a big idea or any goal that you want to set into motion. The other day I noticed that on most of the walls leading outside to the patio, there were several large maps of the local area. Then below, there were small printed maps of all kinds---maps to hike, bike, and drive. This idea of making sure we know where we are going at all times got me thinking: People do not like to get lost. Stop and think about that for a moment. When was the last time you took a wrong turn; felt like you were going the wrong way? Today we have those fancy gadgets called GPS in our cars to keep us on course. You just plug in your final destination and away you go!

Wow, doesn’t that sound easy? Just plug in your desired destination and it will take you there. We will buy a car that has the fancy GPS to make sure that we never get lost. Unfortunately, at times in our life it appears that we have no idea where we are going. A very wise mentor once told me, “If you don’t know where you are going, guess what? You are already there.” So let me ask you: On your current journey, do you like what you see? I’m talking about living a life full of passion and purpose. Are you living each day with passion and purpose? Are you navigating your life to realize your dreams and goals? Is your internal GPS leading you to your desired destination?

I know what getting lost feels like because I have been lost before. I remember a time in my life when I would wake up in the morning feeling drained and with no energy. It was difficult and challenging to get through the day. I had lost my passion for what I was doing--- I was bored. I needed a new challenge, a new map, and a different direction from my own internal GPS. I had known for a few years that working with women to help them realize their dreams and goals was my purpose, my passion. But knowing and doing are two very different things—yes? I had to give myself permission to begin this journey. And then I had to set my internal GPS to take me where I wanted to go.

How about you? Are you ready to program your internal GPS for a new journey, a new idea? Getting started is always the most difficult part. You will be unsure if this is where you want to go. You will at times question yourself. This is when you need a good support system to help you believe in yourself, your dreams, and your goals. The women in my Success Circles have a great environment and support system to help them map out their true journey-their true north. They are following their internal GPS. These women make sure that their passion is leading them to their desired destination.

Your dreams and ideas are the fuel and you are the vehicle to make it happen. All you need is to properly program your internal GPS.

Enjoy the ride!
